Disability Blog Carnival #61 is up NOW!

logo[image description: Disability Blog Carnival logo featuring a patent drawing of a torso-bracing device, with "The Disability Blog Carnival/a bracing event" superimposed in blue lettering]

Go check it out at Alison Bergblom Johnson's blog Writing Mental Illness--the theme is "Telling About Disability." Alison has links about the ugly stuff and the great stuff, about what's past and what's present, about what's frustrating and what's exciting (and some things are both, of course).

Hey, do you want to host a month in 2010? Twelve months, twelve opportunities--let me know and we'll try to set up a schedule. It can be time-consuming, but it can also be rewarding and even fun. Look through the last 61 editions for ideas about what a host can do with an edition.

Meanwhile, if you have any submissions, you can leave them in comments here--I'll promise to get them to the next host.

UPDATE 12/14: Cheryl of the blog Finding My Way: Journey of an Uppity Intellectual Activist Crip will host the January edition--details soon!

UPDATE 12/19: Cheryl has details for #62 at her blog, here. Short version: submissions due January 11, carnival posts the 14th, and the theme is "Holidays." If you don't come out of this holiday season with stories or rants or photos or whatever, reach back into the archives or write about some other holiday experience. Or submit any timely posts, those will work too.

I'd like to host an issue at disability on Dreamwidth (http://disability.dreamwidth.org/). Would you possibly be interested in letting me host an issue?

Hi Lauren--tell me more about how it might work on dreamwidth--that's not a blog format I know much about.

Essentially, disability is an open community for anyone on Dreamwidth to post about disability-related stuff. It functions much as a group blog does - I'd put up a call for submissions, and then create a master post of links when the carnival goes up. Comments are open, and you can subscribe to the community without being on Dreamwidth via RSS.

Okay, that sounds doable, pick a date in February and you're on for hosting that month's carnival. Thanks!

Hey.........are we only doing one DBC a month now? If that's the case, I'll take March.........I already have a theme picked out.

"If you had a chance to strike down a single stereotype, which one would it be and why?"

Yes, we're down to once a month now--participation in all blog carnivals (not just this one) has decreased quite a bit in the past year or so, but there seems to be enough interest to keep ours going at a monthly pace.

Athena Ivan and the Integral, I'll put you down for March. We're not using the blogcarnival.com form anymore, but you can announce the edition and tell readers how you'd like to receive submissions. Thanks!

Hi, Penny. It's nice to meet you! I'm Ellen, mom to Max, a seven-year-old with cerebral palsy. He rocks; I blog about him regularly. Glad I found you!

Hi there. I'd love to host a carnival, but April may be a busy time for me. Can I let you know nearer the time?

I blog at Modus Dopens.

What's the next month for which you need a host, Penny?

PS word verification: "iredness", which is presumably when you're too tired to type the "T"!

If everyone who has made a firm request for a slot can follow-thru, it's JULY! Wow! Would you like to host July?
