There really are still people out there who believe this hateful nonsense.
And they get elected. In the US. In 2010.
No amount of photo ops with cute children can change the ugly of this.
ETA: Not surprised at all to discover that FWD blog had a post about this, and Liz has a whole bunch of links to reactions on the topic. Joel at NTs are Weird also has a comment.

Thank you for the mention! Marshall is really hateful. I hope we can get rid of him in '11.
I'm confused...What does this have to do with Sarah Palin?
Dave
I'm with the last guy- what does this have to do with Sarah Palin?
Fair question, Anons. This seems like a perfect situation for Palin to address--it's happening squarely in her base, and she's made it clear that she wants to do advocacy on behalf of families with disabled children. I strongly suspect that she doesn't consider Trig "nature's punishment" for anything, and maybe she can convey that perspective to Marshall and anyone who agrees with him, in a way that many of us couldn't.
Also--you'd be surprised how SP's name increases page hits. If I were being very cynical about increasing traffic, I'd put her name in every post title. ;)
Be sure the check out the response to Delegate Marshall's comments by one of his fellow delegates. I've posted it on my blog...
